Fischer retires!
By Arne Leyenberg
German heavyweight Willi Fischer has called it a career. The former International German and WBO-Intercontinental Champion unsuccessfully challenged Herbie Hide in 1998 for the WBO Title. He was knocked down by the Englishman three times in two rounds. Fischer was the fourth German ever fighting for a world title at heavyweight. In 2000 Fischer was tested positive for marijuana and steroids and was therefore banned by the German Boxing Federation BDB for one year. In 2003 Fischer, nicknamed "De Ox," once again tested positive for marijuana and was banned by the BDB for one year. In his last outing Fischer defeated Slovakian Vlado Szabo over four rounds. His ring-record stands at 32-6-1.
