It's both because NHL influence and because of our own situation. Most of Finnish rinks have very unsafe glasses and lot is talked about fixing that (and they are, in two years every hall the play have to have safer acrylic glasses etc.

There has been also some scares. Our Golden Boy Mikael Granlund was out way over month last year and missed WJC because of concussion and whip lash injuries (it was more about the whip lash though.) This year there was one scary concussion and while in the end the guy came back quite quickly, it first seemed really bad. A week or two he would puke if he tried to walk stairs etc. And one of our better magazines had lately a long story about a goalie, whose career ended few years ago for the first concussion (he got a puck to his mask) and it took two really difficult years for him before he was able to start studying/work normal job.

About the safety of the rinks they changed something in the NHL, too after this terrible hit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jimZ1tSdPY0&ob=av3e

Oh Granlund did not know this about him :(. I really hoped to see him playing in the NHL but he still wanted to stay in Finland. It's a pity as the Minnesota Wild are doing supringsingly good this season so far.

Yes, Wild is doing awesome. Though I think that right now they have so many injuries, (and so many games ahead very soon) newest injured one being Mikko Koivu that they may come down some.

For Granlund staying one more year was probably best possible decision. Not only because of military service and school, but because he has again get a lot better from the spring. His skating and shot have really improved, and same have his defence work, balance and strength. And just yesterday HIFK captain Ville Peltonen talked, how he has started to also delegate some off-ice leadership to Mikael and how well he has done and how much it's helping the team. Peltonen is an awesome mentor to Granlund anyway and I'm sure that Granlund will be much more ready to NHL next season than he would had been this one.

I whish this could be said from "my" pens but the defence is a catastrophy with two important players missing. We are only running behind the oponent :donk:. And not having Sid in the lineup has become somewhat normally in Pittsburgh :(.
But a lot of teams are struggling with injuries right now.

It was a wise decision if Granlund felt that he is not ready for the NHL or wants to improve his gameplay before moving to the USA. So it's bette staying in Finland and gain gameexperience than only playing 10min or less in the NHL.

By the was how is our german goalie Dennis Endras performing in Finland?

@mario: zwei Fernseher anschaffen ;)
