Hamed facing jail threat
Former world boxing champion Naseem Hamed has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following a crash involving his £300,000 sports car.
The 31-year-old ex-featherweight champ, of Wyvern Gardens, Dore, Sheffield, was bailed by a judge at Sheffield Crown Court, who told him it was possible he would go to prison.
The case follows a crash on Ringinglow Road, on the outskirts of Sheffield, involving Hamed's Mercedes McClaren sports car and two other vehicles, which left one man seriously injured.
The Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Alan Goldsack, agreed to adjourn the case until May 12 to allow pre-sentence reports to be prepared.
He gave the former champion an interim driving ban and told him: "Do not take bail as any indication that you will receive anything other than a custodial sentence."
Hamed was arrested and charged following a serious accident on Ringinglow Road, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, in May last year, close to one of the boxer's homes.
Previous hearings have been told how an occupant of one of the cars involved broke a number of bones and was in hospital for weeks.
The court heard how the man, who has attended a number of previous hearings, could not come to court on Friday because he was in hospital for further treatment.
