"Brunel boxer aiming to become world champion

Mean machine: Brunel University student Ervis Jegeni after becoming BUSA super heavyweight boxing champion at the weekend
A TEENAGE boxer from Brunel University has set his sights on becoming world champion at the age of 21 after winning the 2003 BUSA super heavyweight championships with one hand.
Ervis Jegeni, who was making his first-ever appearance in a boxing tournament, took the honour at the British University Sports Association finals in Coventry, on Saturday.
The 17-year-old Albanian, said: "It went pretty well especially as it was my first competition. I didn't feel nervous, I just wanted to do the business and I had to box with one hand in the final because I hurt the other one in the semi-final."
The 116kg business management student suffered the injury whilst outpointing Raheem Butt from Kingston University but despite this disadvantage going into the final, Jegeni still managed to knockout Alan Willecki from Coventry University in round two.
The talented fighter, who has been boxing for less than two years, is now targeting next year's National Youth title and then the National Senior title in 2005 before turning professional.
And Jegeni, who compares his style to Mike Tyson, has dismissed talk of following in the footsteps of former Brunel student and Olympic super heavyweight champion Audley Harrison.
He said: "My way of boxing is not suited to amateur competitions. I want to turn professional in 18 months, which means I will not be able to box in the Olympics."
Harrison, who takes on world number 106 Brian Nix in Nevada a week on Friday, turned professional after winning gold in 2000 and Jegeni has not ruled out the possibility of facing him in the future.
He added: "If he is still around in a few years I may fight him. He is a good boxer but our styles are different."
