Toney: I want Klitschko!
April 26, 2004

While the press was waiting for newly crowned WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko after his stoppage win over Corrie Sanders, heavyweight contender James Toney grabbed the podium and began to speak his mind on the current state of the heavyweight division.
"Hello ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the James Toney press conference," said Toney, who is highly ranked in all the sanctioning bodies (WBO #1, WBC #5, IBF #5, WBA #6) following his one bout as a heavyweight, a TKO over faded Evander Holyfield.
When asked his opinion of the night’s heavyweight championship fight, without hesitation, Toney replied, "garbage! It was garbage. You had two fighters in there who were scared to hit each other. If Klitschko has the b--ls, or the will to get in with me, I'm gonna destroy him. I'm bringing it to him. I'm a little guy, a middleweight. A middleweight that’s not a full fledged heavyweight and I'm coming to kick somebodies a--. I want Klitschko."
When asked about his current status, Toney revealed, "I'm back in the gym now. I'll be ready to fight by August. I guarantee you Klitschko won't be ready to fight by August. My main fight, I wanna fight for the heavyweight championship of the world. It doesn’t matter who it’s against. It could be against [Lamon] Brewster, sorry a-- [Chris] Byrd, sorry a-- [John] Ruiz, whoever. It doesn’t matter. Bottom line is, the only guy that’s credible enough to fight in the sport of boxing, for real, is me."
When asked about a possible match against Mike Tyson:
"Anytime, anywhere. Bring it, we’ll call him."
"What about Jirov?" asked someone in the press.
Toney shot right back, "What about Jirov? You seen what I did to him last year and he still hasn’t recovered from it."
"Who do you think is the better fighter, Vitali or Wladamir?"
"Neither one. They both can't spell fight. I could knockout both Klitschkos and Sanders on the same night."
A member from the German press yelled back, "You cant beat either brother!"
Toney jabbed back, "They both sorry. I can beat you and I can beat the rest of the Klitschko brothers. Klitschko sucks. The brother got knocked out 2 weeks ago and they’re saying Don King drugged him. Don King was nowhere around. Now you sit your a-- down. Go tell your momma the same thing she told me you sissy."
Toney finally stood down from the microphone when three security guards came in, gave him the look and said it was Vitali’s turn. :laugh2:

keine chance
