“How much is different for you the day before a match against Jannik compared to the other top players? On court you're always so focused, while maybe with other players you go more with the flow. I'm wondering the fact that there was a lot of expectation on this match from the crowd. I'd like to know do you feel the same like Alcaraz-Sinner is the new Nadal-Federer, Nadal-Djokovic, whatever?”
Carlos: “He's the best players in the world. It doesn't matter that he was out of the tour for three months. Every tournament he's playing, he plays great. The numbers are there. I mean, he wins almost every match he plays. That's why I'm even more focused when I play against him. If I don't play at my best, 10 out of 10, it's going to be impossible to beat him. That's why I'm more focused when I’m playing against him, or I feel a little bit different when I'm going to face him than other players. I think obviously for the rest of the players are the same when they are facing Jannik. It’s kind of different feeling. He has that aura. When you're seeing him at the other side of the net, it's kind of different. That's why obviously I'm feeling that the people are putting so much, let's say - how can I say - pressure in a certain way to both of us when we are facing each other. I'm not going to say I'm feeling like when Rafa and Roger are playing, but I'm feeling like is a different energy when we are facing against each other than other players.”

“Jannik, bad luck. Not the result you wanted today, but a lot of positives coming out of these two weeks in Rome. What do you think made the difference today against Carlos?”
Jannik: “Yeah, difference? First set for sure was a little bit of a game-changer. But talking general, very happy about this tournament. It gives me then hopefully confidence to play some good tennis also in Paris. Let's see what's coming out there. But yeah, after three months coming here making this result means a lot to me, a lot to my team also. We worked a lot to be here. Happy also with my family and everything. So yeah, happens like today. But for sure it's a good lesson then for Paris.” “What are you most pleased about your performances this week, and also, in general, what has it been like to experience this?” Jannik: “Yeah, experience amazing, no? It's something very, very special playing here in Italy, in Rome. They pick me up like a small child, no? The support was amazing. For sure there are some things like we saw today what we have to improve if we want to do good in Paris. I am closer than expected in a way of everything. But in the other way, it was good. It was a great week for me. Some matches incredibly well, some matches could be better. But this is tennis. It's a lot of ups and downs. But no, everything together, it was a good, good tournament.”
