Pound 4 Pound TV Xclusive: Erik Morales wants to fight Juan Manuel Marquez
WBC light-welter champion Erik Morales has successfully recovered from his recent gall bladder operation, with the Mexican now resuming training ahead of his defence against Danny Garcia on the rescheduled date of March 24th.
"Everything went ok, I had to rest several days but I can start doing light training in the first weeks of January, in time I’ll intensify them according on what the doctors say. But there’s no doubt I’ll get to the bout in the best shape as possible" said Morales.
The 35-year old is the only Mexican to have defeated Manny Pacquiao and believes the current version of himself would never lose to Manny Pacquiao again.
"The current Morales can beat Pacquiao, I have no doubt of that, in the last bouts I fought with him, I was not even the shadow of the boxer that I’m today. I hopeful a chance of facing him comes around again." said Erik.
Morales will face unbeaten Garcia in Texas and believes whilst his opponent is young and possibly stronger, that his experience will be the key.
"I believe that my recent rivals thought I was the same boxer who lost the fights against Manny Pacquiao, but when they faced me they realized they were against a different Morales, the Erik from the good old times.
"I’ve noticed that many young boxing prospects depend a lot on their strength and speed but they have no technique. I considered myself a boxer who puts more training into technique before strength and speed and I think it is there where I have my advantage against younger boxers.
"After so many years in boxing I see things in the ring that the young boxers don’t simply because they don’t have the enough experience" said Morales.
Whilst Morales would relish a fight with Pacquiao, he is also fancying a bout with his fellow Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, who many believed beat Pacquiao in their last bout.
"I would be very happy to fight Marquez!" said Morales "And if we don't fight it's because he doesn't want to."
Würde mich dennoch freuen ! :thumb:
