A little north-west of Mbabane, Mantjolo, under its calm waters resides the entire Mnisi ancestral clan. According to traditional belief, it is believed that when a member of the Mnisi family passes on, the spirit of that person lives at the bottom of the sacred pool in a world that is similar to the world we live in. It is a known fact that the level of the pool never varies in spite of drought, heavy rains and a white farmer who utilized the pool as part of his irrigation system. The sacred Mantjolo pool is a national monument in eSwatini (Swaziland). King Sobhuza 11 recognized the sacred nature of the pool and permission was granted to the Mnisi clan to have large gatherings in the area. He also provided slaughtered cows for the occasions. Only the Mnisiâs can petition the spirits of the pool. The spirits have the power to create violent thunder or hail storms and can prove petitions intentions of having bad intentions or as âMutiâ traditional medicine for greed. The pool becomes cloudy or suddenly rippled with no wind present or other obvious disturbances in showing its displease. Sudden thunderstorms and hail storms can destroy crops or property of the offender and he may expect severe consequences especially if they are not a Mnisi are foretold by those used to âreadingâ the pond. The test of leadership was simple to determine all pretenders too the kingship. They were to enter the pool and submerge a burning candle or torch. The person who emerged the candle or torch alight was then hailed as a new leader. The Mnisi clan is the guardians of the sacred pool.

Both Eric Chan (Hong Kong) and Grzegorz Omelanczuk (Poland) provided simultaneously information about the existence of stamps issued by Timor Leste on November 28, 2015 and that are similar to the Portugal stamps issued on October 28, 2015. These stamps are celebrating 500 years of relations and discovery of Timor by Portuguese. We had noticed last year the Portuguese stamps but in absence of any information related to a link to Timor or from the Timor postal authorities, these stamps were not taken into consideration in the 2016 catalogue supplement. Surprisingly Portuguese postal administration (PTT) claims it is not a joint issue. In fact Portugal Post provided the design to Timor Postal authorities explaining the difference in dates of issue. No mixed covers are available, but the situation is similar to the Spain Bolivia [C19621012], Spain Panama [C19631012] or Spain Chile [C19691012] issues. Therefore this is definitely a discovery of a joint issue that has to be integrated in the list of the 2015 issued joint stamps and which will be filed as a concerted [C2] pair. A better image of the stamps is also missing.
Portugal issued two stamps 2x[2x10] at respectively 115,000 and 165,000 samples and one souvenir sheet at 40,000 samples. So far we have only seen two Timor Leste stamps on an FDC cover.

"Many of our younger people have been enquiring about the Jamaica Burial Scheme Society (JBSS), and seeking to know what purpose it served in Jamaica of yesteryear.
Well towards the end of the last century, and in the early part of the present century, the JBSS was a very important organization to our poorer brothers and sisters in the island, as it helped them through co-operative and fund raising efforts to pool small sums of money with which to bury their loved ones, assist them through periods of hospitalization due to illness, and also help them in many other urgent matters.
Before the days of funeral parlors and their refrigerated units, the burial of the dead was a traumatic home based activity, and burial was done within a period of three days, before decomposition set in or before the body âraisedâ. Poor people who were unable to find the money for burial, generally went from home to home, with a white saucer in which some salt was placed, soliciting assistance for the funeral expenses. It was such an event, when a dead man was not buried after four days, which prompted Andrew Duffus Mowatt, a compassionate man, to take action which led to the eventual establishment of the Jamaica Burial Scheme Society, at Banbury, Linstead, on the 18th February 1901. It was the first benevolent society founded in Jamaica, and long preceded the Credit Unions, NIS, NHT and such other organizations.
At one time, there were 160 branches of the society island wide, and also in Costa Rica, Panama and Cuba, where many Jamaicans lived.
âFatherâ Mowatt was born at Dehaney Pen, St. Thomas on the 23rd September 1854. He was a cooper by trade, and worked at the Belvedere Estate, St. Thomas, the Bybrook Estate in Bog Walk, and the West Indies Chemical Works in Spanish Town.
He was a Methodist Class Leader and Circuit Steward in Spanish Town where he lived, and died on the 8th April 1934, at the age of 80.
A memorial Plaque in âFatherâ Mowattâs honor is in the Spanish Town Methodist Church, and a bronze bust of him was erected in 1988, at the intersection of Cumberland Road and Brunswick Street in Spanish Town.
The JBSS headquarters, situated in Spanish Town, was destroyed by fire a few years ago, and has not been yet renuilt.
