Seven-footer Hollins - a second-round pick last season - has scrimmaged with the starters the past three days, and coach Sam Vincent says he’s prepared to stick with that decision if conditions don’t change.
Vincent really doesn’t want Emeka Okafor playing the vast majority of his minutes at center. So far, that’s precluded Vincent from using Walter Herrmann as a starter at power forward.
Weeks before camp, coach Sam Vincent suggested the team sign another veteran big man, mentioning free agents Michael Ruffin and Marc Jackson as possibilities. Ruffin signed with Milwaukee, but Jackson (most recently a New Orleans Hornet) appears to be available. [...]
Higgins said signing Jackson is one possibility.
"It's hard to win without veteran bigs in this league," Higgins said. "We know that, and that's something we'll have to address in the near future."
The initial diagnosis is a sprained left knee, but the damage to Charlotte Bobcats forward Adam Morrison could be far worse, based on the impressions of those around him Saturday. [...]
“I knew it was no good – that wasn’t just a sprain,’’ said Walton. “I said a prayer for him. That looked really, really bad.’’
Morrison was scheduled for an X-ray last night and a magnetic resonance imaging this morning. The MRI is a more revealing test for soft tissue damage. Morrison left the arena on crutches, his knee heavily bandaged.
“He looked like he got shot – it was hard to watch,’’ said teammate Matt Carroll, who witnessed the injury from the bench, straight across from Morrison. “It wasn’t hard to tell how much pain he was in, from the way he was yelling. I couldn’t look at the replay’’ on the scoreboard above.
