"When I entered training camp last time (against Castillejo), I weighed 192 pounds.... I actually passed out in the sauna and my team had to literally carry me to my room. So on fight night, I was totally drained before the fight even started."
"Thank God that I know how to box and that I have a good trainer in Danny Smith," Vargas continued. "I was still able to use my legs and avoid a lot of the stuff, but if I had been in there with someone (great), I don't even want to know what would have happened. I know what to eat this time and I know how to watch my diet."
"I am not going to disrespect Shane Mosley," Vargas stated. "He is a great fighter and I like watching his fights. I like Mosley as a guy, too. I have nothing but respect for him and he has done some great things for boxing. He is a world champion and I consider him a friend.... But on February 25, when that bell rings, this is no friends. This is a business and we gotta do what we gotta do. I am sure Mosley thinks the same way."
Mosley concurred and also stated that he is excited to be fighting Vargas.
"Vargas is a great fighter, a very exciting fighter," Mosley said. "I am thrilled to be fighting him and I know I will be ready for him. This fight is very important for me just like is for him. He said that he is going to on me like brown on wild rice and that's good. That means that he'll be ready and it will be an exciting fight."
Vargas had mentioned earlier in the press conference that he is already in training and that that he weighs about 175 pounds. Mosley, though, joked that he didn't think Vargas was really down to that weight, suggesting that maybe the slightly puffy Vargas was heavier. Vargas simply grinned.
