Bei Ward lief es ja alles andere als reibungslos:
Unbeaten Olympic medalist Andre Ward (7-0) survived the toughest test of his career in Darnell Boone (6-3-1). Boone had by far the most speed of any of Ward's opponents, with his hand speed being only a notch slower than Ward's. Ward had the more complete set of skills, and was able to dominate the first three rounds by throwing straighter shots and controlling the distance with his amazing footwork. After winning the first two minutes of the fourth round in the same manner, Ward got careless, and was hit with a solid uppercut that would have knocked out many a fighter. Ward was able to pick himself up and managed to clinch to survive the round. Ward's legs were shaky throughout the fifth frame, and he was no longer able to control the distance so masterfully. Boone tried for the knockout with wild shots, and won the round. Ward had his legs back for the sixth and final round, but fought cautiously, leading to a close round. Ward was given the decision by scores of 57-56, 58-56, and 59-55. Two of the three judges only gave Boone a 10-9 round after he knocked Ward down in the fourth.
Fightnews had it 57-56 for Boone.
