Kaum zu glauben, aber es gibt immer noch Leute, die nicht kapieren, dass das größte Talent noch lange nicht der beste Spieler eines Teams sein muss:

Not only is he the best guard the Knicks have, but also their best player and by far the best equipped to play in Mike D’Antoni’s up-tempo offense, but he can’t get a fair shake.

There has been this belief among most of the members of the media, who have unfairly vilified Marbury, and the New York fans, a segment that's as fair-weather as they come, that he is the sole reason that the Knicks have struggled over the last five years. He’s been called a cancer, a gunner, overpaid, selfish and most recently “Truckhead.”
Combined with years of losing, this has created a situation where anyone who has come into the organization looks first at Marbury as the problem and not the overwhelming amount of pieces that the team is missing.
Excluding D’Antoni, the team has had four different coaches and four different systems in the last five years. They’ve lacked a player that could help Marbury shoulder any of the on court responsibility. They also lack consistent outside shooting, a big man that provides a true interior defensive presence, a true small forward and shooting guard.
Despite those facts, all fingers are pointed towards Marbury as the sole reason the Knicks have struggled. Apparently, he’s also the reason the team lost in 41 of the 58 games he missed last season.
It seems as if D’Antoni has bought into the garbage that has been said about the 31-year-old point guard and would rather not be bothered with the headache of dealing with him and the microscope he's always under.

Wie kann man eigentlich ganze Jahre ignorieren, in denen sich so gut wie alle seine Coaches und etliche seiner Mitspieler (und gerade die haben doch wohl den allerbesten Einblick) über Marbury beschwert haben, und behaupten, dass dies ein durch die Presse geschaffenes, falsches Bild sei?
Dass er für das D'Antoni-System noch am ehesten vom gesamten NYK-Kader geschaffen sei, bezweifle ich sowieso schon einmal, denn dafür ist er ein zu durchschnittlicher Fernschütze und wenn er seine Stärke ausspielen will, hat man genau das, was eben nicht zum Up-Tempo-Game passt: Einen Scoring-PG, der den Ball monopolisiert und dabei nicht gerade bekannt dafür ist, ihn seinen Mitspielern dort zu servieren, wo sie am meisten damit anfangen können.
Das Fazit des Artikels, dass er auf einen Buyout eingehen und sein Glück noch einmal woanders suchen sollte, ist natürlich richtig, und sicher war er auch nicht der alleinige Grund, warum die Knicks in den letzten Jahren abgrundtief schlecht waren (das waren Isiah Thomas und Dolan mindestens ebenso mit der völlig falschen Strategie), aber das ganze Geplapper, dass er immer noch der beste Spieler der Knicks sei und ihnen als Starter mehr als Duhon helfen würde (wofür eigentlich genau, wenn es doch ein Rebuild-Jahr ist!), geht doch arg daran vorbei, wie Marbury seine Chancen zu einem nicht unwesentlichen Teil selbst vermasselt hat, dass er eben niemals der Spieler war, dessen Impact seinen Statistiken entsprach, und dass es das Beste wäre, wenn man das Kapitel "Starbury bei den Knicks" komplett schließen könnte und sich endlich auf die Zukunft konzentrieren könnte.
Bevor man Marbury viel spielen lässt, sollte man besser die anderen Spieler auflaufen lassen, um sie für andere Teams attraktiver zu machen bzw. zu testen, welche Rolle sie ab nächstem Jahr überhaupt noch für die Knicks spielen können.
Heute Nacht wird Marbury nichtsdestotrotz vielleicht starten, allerdings als Shooting Guard.
