Greenberg and Codrington stay unbeaten
Broadway Boxing is alive and well and in New York City at the Manhattan Center. Lou DiBella continues to groom a group of talented young fighters who have the opportunity to shake up the boxing landscape.
The five fight card featured Israeli (via England) Heavyweight prospect Roman Greenberg (pictured right), who failed to impress. Instead of opening up and attacking slippery but talent free Marcus McGee, from Tuscaloosa, AL, Greenberg was content to plod along behind a jab and right cross that mostly missed their mark until the boos of the 1050 people who attended the otherwise exciting show, prompted him to do the right thing. That being dropping his 217 ¾ pound foe with a left hook in the fourth round of a scheduled eight. Greenberg decked Magee again after having him trapped along the ropes where he pounded him with both hands. The referee stopped counting after the second knockdown and waved the fight off. Time of the stoppage was 1:24 of round four. McGee had no offence as Greenberg stalked him from the opening bell.
The 22 year-old Greenberg, who fights out of Finchley, England, weighed 238 ¾ pounds. He improved to 18-0 (13), while McGee picked up his sixth loss against 12 wins with six knockouts.
After the fight Greenberg said, "He was difficult to hit. I took my time, because he wanted to counterpunch and so did I. As soon as the opportunity arose I caught him."
Team Sykes Announces: 2005 is Year of the Bull
2/11 - Taurus “The Bull” Sykes (22-1-1), the 29-year old Brooklyn, NY heavyweight that has been the talk of the New York gym scene over the last few years is finally ready to crash the gates of the heavyweight division and claim his rightful place in 2005 as the hottest prospect in the heavyweight division. Step-one will dismantling Friday Ahunanya (20-2-1) on March 11th in Hobbs, NM.
“Ahunanya is nothing. I see him and I see nothing and I am going to take the fight to him. I’m a thinker and I have also become more aggressive and that is the difference; I am going to step to him and take the fight to him."
"His style is chump and he can’t work me and he will just be a small road bump on my road to greatness… he calls himself Friday the 13th but is closer to Nightmare on Elm Street because I will give him a nightmare straight from the streets of Brooklyn that he will never forget.” Sykes said.
With the heavyweight division in the weak state that it is, Sykes is ready to rescue the division and represent Brooklyn all the way to the top.
“My skills are too much for the rest of the so-called contenders in the heavyweight division. With the state of the division right now I see myself as being able to beat anyone in the division and the only thing that I don’t have that some other people have is opportunity."
"Now I am with Lenny Fresquez and with my new team I am ready to do my thing in 2005 and I will not be denied.” Sykes said.
