Der Wind war auch vorher ne Entschuldigung für die Verlierer...
It should not have been, but it was. So what has changed so drastically over the last 6 months, so now not using the wind rule is almost unthinkable?
FIS said that they came to conclusions after SGP that the wind is not so influential as they believed before, and this is the reason why the 'wind factor' formulas would be reduced.
''Mathematische Formel etwas defensiver ausgelegt
Außerdem wurden leichte Modifizierungen an der mathematischen Formel vorgenommen, die den Wind mit einberechnet. Sie wird etwas defensiver ausgelegt.

So, we have the following situation :
Before it was believed that 1 m/s can be worth around 10 meters. We used the old system, and everybody was able to accept the results -
''Der Wind war auch vorher ne Entschuldigung für die Verlierer... ''
Now, FIS came to conclusions that 1 m/s actually means much less - but hey, not using wind rule is now impossible!
I just don't get it.
Also, I just don't get the point of
increasing the inrun lenght if the conditions become worse. Yes, the actual jump will be longer - but it will be scored exactly the same as if it was taken from the original starting point! So what exactly is the point of it?
The FIS argument is probably that the fans would want to see longer jumps - but hey, why just then don't organize exhibition jumps instead of sporting competition? By using flexible gate, everybody could be jumping on K-point (long, but still safe jumps - and this I fear is the Hofer's dream, hence the experiment with coaches also allowed to change the inrun gate)
I strongly believe that the real fans (those who are only interested in sport itself, and are not there only to picture their Bjoern / Martin / Anders / Adam or whoever) want to see difference between jumpers expressed only in distance and style marks (things which they could actually see), and not some invisible factors.
Und nein, die Norges waren schlecht, aber diesen Sommer lags nicht am Wind bzw der neuen Regel, dass sie auf einmal gut sind
I agree completely.
