UPDATE Friday 19.00 HT-Time: Hattrick has been down since early morning due to a hardware failure in one of our external disk cabinets. Since this is where the Hattrick database is stored, we have been working on two fronts today: finding and resolving the hardware problem, while at the same time trying to secure the Hattrick game data. Around noon today, we had the database up and running again, but unfortunately the cabinet crashed again resulting in a corrupt database. By late afternoon, we had finally replaced the faulty hardware but were still trying to restore the Hattrick database as per Friday morning. We didn´t succeed, and have now decided to restore a backup made Thursday morning around 0700 Ht-time. At present, all systems are up again and Hattrick is making up for the time lost. Going back to this previous backup will have effects for many teams, since already processed transfers will be unmade and deadlines rescheduled, and games will have to be replayed, and the player updates recalculated. We will of course try to get the site back online as soon as we can, but our priority is to make sure Hattrick and the hardware continues to work alright. Don´t expect Hattrick back online on Friday. We will inform you as soon as we know more about the reopening of the site. We are very sorry about this disruption of the service.

Information about Friday site closing As many of you have noticed by now, the Hattrick site was closed most of Friday and the early morning of Saturday. We would like to explain what has been going on, and what the consequences of this disruption will be for you. On Friday morning at around 04.20 hours Hattrick time, our database server lost contact with an external hard disk cabinetthat holds the actual Hattrick database. This error made the site unreachable, and halted the application that makes the Hattrick universe tick. As soon as we discovered this problem, we closed the site and started troubleshooting the system together with the support team of our hardware vendor. Early indications pointed toward a hardware failure, but we couldn't be sure if this failure had happened on the actual server, in the external disk cabinet, or somewhere in the connection between the two. There was only one way to find out: by analyzing our logs to find the physical parts most likely to be causing the problems, and replacing those. Meanwhile, our priority was to secure the Hattrick database as of 04.20 Friday morning. We managed to get the database online and in working condition around noon, after entirely replacing the hard disk cabinet with a new one. Everything seemed OK, and we started making a new backup of the "current" Hattrick database in case of any new problems. Unfortunately the hardware failure resurfaced before a new backup had been completed. This of course caused the server and database to crash again, and this time the database was damaged. At this point we had finally found the culprit, a damaged SCSI cable, and the hardware was working again, but we were now facing a corrupt database. After spending several more hours trying to repair this version of Hattrick, we made the decision to revert to our latest complete backup, which had been made on Thursday morning, Hattrick time. We are acutely aware that reverting to this backup may cause problems for you as users. All user activity on the site during Thursday has basically been lost, from transfers to match orders and youth promotions. We are sincerely sorry for this, as we are for the long downtime of the site.We have tried our very best to avoid any adverse consequences for you, but unfortunately it was not possible to avoid going back to our latest daily backup. What happens now? * All user activity during Thursday has been lost. This includes: transfers, match orders, youth promotions, arena construction, and so forth. Please taka a good look at your team and see what this means for you. * Please remember: You may need to resubmit your match orders for the weekend games. * Thursday transfer deadlines has been extended for 2,5 days, and Friday deadlines for 1,5 days. This means that most transfers will take place some time after noon Saturday. * Health and training updates have been recalculated. This should not mean that much for most users, though, as these updates are fairly "linear". * International games that were to be played Friday night were played as planned. * Supporter payments made by credit card during Thursday will be restored manually. There is no risk of payments being lost due to the server crash, but there will be delays. Also, gift purchases to other users may not work properly. These transactions will be added to the account of the user who actually paid for the purchase. Contact us at sales@extralives.com and we will sort out this for you, and answer any question you may have about this. On our end, this was obviously a very disappointing event, especially since we have been expanding our capacity, security and redundancy over the last few months for the exact reason to avoid situations like this one. Apparently, we are still not there, but we will keep trying to improve the technical side of Hattrick. Again, please accept our apologies for any trouble this server crash has caused you.
