After refusing to talk about the actions of Mike Tyson all week, heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis finally broke the silence last night. Sort of.

Lewis didn't want to answer too many questions about the ruckus caused by Tyson on Tuesday in New York City and would not confirm or deny rumors that he was bit by Mike Tyson or someone else during Tuesday's melee in New York City. "I can't say anything right now until Wednesday," he said. However, he doesn't think Tyson will have trouble getting re-licensed in Nevada. "I think he'll get his license." Doesn't he think it hurts boxing for Tyson to get his license like that? "No, I don't think so," he said. "Definitely not in the pocket."

In an earlier TV interview with HBO's Larry Merchant, Lewis said that he still wants the fight to happen. "I definitely want the fight to go on. In a sense that that's the biggest fight out there for me right now," Lewis said. "I've been waiting for it since the Holyfield fight. It will be a disappointment if it doesn't go on because the public wants to see this fight." Still, Lewis was evasive when it came to discussing what he thinks should happen. "I'm not saying anything until Wednesday," he told Merchant. "And the truth will be known on Wednesday." There were rumors circulating last night that there are actual pictures of bite marks on Lewis' upper thigh. Tyson supposedly bit Lewis during their scuffle. Lewis would neither confirm nor deny this. However, Lewis did tell Fightnews that if he beats Tyson, he would retire.

If the Tyson fight doesn't come off, Lewis says he can wind up fighting one of the other contenders. "Well there are three possible guys out there, so I'll take the first one. (Chris) Byrd's name has come up. (Wladimir) Klitschko is another one."

Ist doch mal eine klare Aussage. Wenn Lewis gegen Tyson kämpft, dann ist danach (evtl. Rückkampf) das Ende der Karriere gekommen.

Ansonsten wird es Byrd, wenn er gerichtlich dazu verpflichtet ist oder wohl Wladimir Klitschko.

Wäre doch was.

Egal wie man zu Lewis steht, kann man seine Rücktrittspläne doch verstehen! Warum sollte zur Abwechslung nicht mal jemand zu einem vernünftigen Zeitpunkt (im Alter von 36/37 Jahren!) zurücktreten?

Ich finde es auch Ok, wenn Lewis zurücktreten möchte. Es muß doch jeder selbst merken, ob er sich noch fit fühlt. Wenn er denkt seine Zeit ist gekommen, dann sollte er zurücktreten.

Das schaut Mike mal wieder ähnlich. Der Bruno Kampf war glaube ich sein Rekord, den hat er 5mal verschoben.

Habe eh zu lernen, bin also nicht wegen dem Tyson Interview wach, aber das wäre jetzt trotzdem eine nette Pause gewesen.

Lewis wins decision over Byrd!

There is still a chance that heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis can fight Mike Tyson and keep his IBF title. #1 ranked Chris Byrd failed to convince District Judge John Bissell that he must be involved in the next IBF heavyweight title fight. In federal court in New Jersey, Judge Bissell ruled today that Lewis can apply to the IBF for an exception to its manadatory defense requirements. The ruling does not mean the IBF will necessarily agree to sanction Lewis-Tyson, but certainly the IBF can make a lot of money by doing so. Today's decision is a setback for the top-rated Byrd, who wants an immediate title shot, either against Lewis or the IBF number two contender, Fres Oquendo. Byrd had gone to court attempting to block the IBF from sanctioning Lewis-Tyson, arguing he had won the right to challenge Lewis next after defeating David Tua in an IBF eliminator. Through attorneys Pat English and Judd Burstein, Lewis successfully argued that the normal procedures of the IBF should apply and that he should be allowed to apply for an exception. The basis for the exception would be that Tyson is the WBC's mandatory and it would be unfair to subject Lewis to conflicting mandatory obligations. Today's decision vacates a previous ruling, which forbid the IBF from sanctioning any heavyweight title fight without Byrd.

In Tyson's three most recent fights in Las Vegas, he (1) bit Evander Holyfield; (2) tried to break Frans Botha's arm off at the elbow; and (3) hit Orlin Norris on the break twice; the second time, after the bell. Out-of state, Tyson refused to take a drug test prior to fighting Andrew Golota in Michigan and tested positive for an illegal substance after the fight. In Scotland versus Lou Savarese, he punched referee John Coyle so he could punch Savarese some more after Coyle had stopped the bout.

By a count of 4-1, the Nevada Athletic Commission has voted to deny Mike Tyson a license to box in Nevada. Things looked bleak for Mike Tyson as commissioners Tony Alamo and John Bailey indicated in their closing statements that they would vote against Tyson. With Amy Ayoub already expressing anti-Tyson sentiments, Tyson attorney Bob Faiss called for a recess. When the hearing resumed, Tyson was wisely kept out of public view while Faiss withdrew the application. Faiss was not allowed to withdraw the application and a vote was taken. Only Luther Mack voted to grant Tyson's application. Lewis and Tyson now will likely look for another site to host their fight. Because Tyson was denied a license, and not placed on suspension, he can still apply for a license in other states. New York has indicated it would respect Nevada's decision but Michigan, which hosted Tyson's last fight in America, has given favorable indications.

Ausnahmen bestätigten die Regel.
Wer hätte gedacht dass ausgerechnet Nevada Tyson die Lizenz verweigert. Dachte die zivilrechtliche Klage wegen angeblicher Vergewaltigung ist die einzige echte Hürde für den Kampf, natürlich neben Mike selbst.

Die Chancen auf den Mega Fight sind weiter gesunken.
Nach Angaben des Tyson Camps kam es bei der Pressekonferenz in NY zum Eklat weil Lewis sich nicht an das Skript hielt.
Tyson hat nur seine Rolle gespielt, was auch deutlich wurde, als er einen halben Meter am Bodyguard vorbeizielte. Alles war wie nun erstmals offiziell bestätigt inszeniert. Irgendwas stinkt hier gewaltig.......
Sicherlich gibt es auch andere Gründe die eine Verweigerung der Lizenz Tysons rechtfertigen.

Viele Experten in den USA gehen jetzt davon aus, dass der Kampf nicht mehr stattfinden wird. HBO wird seine Übertragungsrechte abgeben, New York will den Fight auch nicht austragen. Lewis hat bereits angedeutet, dass er keine Lust mehr auf Tyson's Eskapaden hat.

Ich seh schwarz für den Kampf. Am besten sollte sich Lewis so schnell es geht um einen Aufbaugegner für den Frühling kümmern, um dann im Sommer gegen Byrd zu verteidigen.

Recht hast Du, irgendwie bin ich mir noch nicht sicher was ich von alle dem halten soll. Ich mag diese getürkten Pressekonferenzen überhaupt nicht. Dann kann ich mir auch gleich Wrestling angucken. Insofern geht mir Lennox Lewis ebenfalls schwer auf den Zeiger.

Ich kann mir (abgesehen von Rocky) auch keinen deutschen Boxer vorstellen, der ein solch albernes Getue mitmachen würde. Bezeichnend für die Sinnlosigkeit solcher Fan-/Öffentlichkeits-Verarschung ist, dass das Ganze noch nicht einmal funktioniert hat, weil sich Lewis angeblich nicht an das Skript gehalten hat.

Vielleicht hat er das getan, damit Tyson von der Nevada-Boxkommission seine Lizenz nicht zurück bekommt. Bei der Geldmenge, die er verdienen würde kann ich mir das zwar nur schwer vorstellen, aber wer weiss?

Mike Tyson war so oder so schlecht beraten. Das er das vom geistigen Vermögen her nicht durchschaut, kann ich mir schon vorstellen, aber zumindest sein Management hätte ihn vor den Konsequenzen warnen müssen.:idiot:

Aufgrund seiner Eskapaden innerhalb und ausserhalb des Rings wäre ich ohnehin nicht so traurig darüber, wenn Mike Tyson die Menschheit nicht weiter penetriert. So, jetzt zerreisst mich

Prior to today, I have made no public statements concerning the events of January 22. I remained silent at the direct instruction and insistence of my attorneys, who advised me that revealing the truth about what occurred would have undoubtedly led to a lawsuit by Mike Tyson claiming that I interfered with the licensing process. In addition, I believed that the Nevada State Athletic Commission, for whom I have the greatest respect and whose integrity is beyond dispute, should make its decision in the best interests of boxing, without regard to what I may or may not have wanted. However, now that the licensing proceedings are over, and a license has been denied, I am no longer bound to remain silent. The fact is that Mike Tyson bit through my trousers and took a significant piece of flesh out of my thigh. I was particularly disturbed by the fact that he went before the Commission today and did not tell the truth by denying what he knows occurred. I have made no decision yet about the possibility of fighting Mike Tyson in another jurisdiction that may license him because I want to consider carefully the reasons expressed by the Commission in denying the license. In addition, I am still consulting with my attorneys as to the legal consequences should I declare that I will not go forward with the bout. I know that all of my fans were looking forward to the Lewis/Tyson fight, as was I. I am sorry that the situation has not yet been resolved.

Wenn die in Nebraska nicht wollen dann boxen sie eben in Juneau oder in Ulan Bator, dieser Kampf findet statt.

Einzig Tyson hat im Moment derartige Zugkraft, hier kommt Geld in der Größenordnug des Jahresumsatzes eines mittleren Konzerns in Bewegung, der Kampf wird stattfinden, so oder so, es sei denn der Tyson vergeht sich an der amerikanischen Präsidentengattin

Totto : Und wieviele Zuseher und wieviel Geld würde klein Wladi nach seiner berauschenden Leistung gegen den lebensgefährlichen Gegner Charles Shufford in Bewegung bringen?
