Sid macht inzwischen wieder
leichtes Eistraining, wird hoffentlich zu den Playoffs wieder dabei sein. Geno hat sich mehrere Bänder gerissen, als Tyler Myers nach nem Check auf sein Knie gefallen ist. Wird erst zum nächsten Trainingslager im September wieder da sein.
Stimmen zu Cookies Sperre:
Colin Campbell: "Mr. Cooke, a repeat offender, directly and unnecessarily targeted the head of an opponent who was in an unsuspecting and vulnerable position. This isn't the first time this season that we have had to address dangerous behavior on the ice by Mr. Cooke, and his conduct requires an appropriately harsh response."
Ray Shero: "The suspension is warranted because that's exactly the kind of hit we're trying to get out of the game. Head shots have no place in hockey. After the game he said all the right things. He takes full responsibility. He sent Ryan McDonagh a text. The words are great, but it's going to be your actions when you come back as a player and still be a productive player in the league. That's going to be up to Matt Cooke. I'd prefer to be part of the solution to rehabbing him as a player as opposed to making the decision to toss him overboard to be somebody else's problem and say, 'We did our part'. He's a value to our team when he plays hockey. For him to stay in the league and be a player in this league, he's going to have to do that. Every summer, you look at your team, and maybe you make changes. My feeling right now is to have him come back as a more productive player."
Dan Bylsma: "I don't think you can talk about eliminating head shots from the game, as we have as an organization, and not expect that to be examined, as what looks to be contact right to the head, on the play. The league will look at that and treat it as such. When Matt Cooke plays within the rules, it's been very successful for us and was a big part of us going on that Stanley Cup run. He is fully capable of playing a physical, hitting game within the rules. We're going to have to go through and establish just where those situations are, that you still can play a hard, physical game and play within the rules. It's something he's going to have to learn going forward."
Ryan McDonagh: "I would hope it wasn't his intent (to deliver a headshot). It's a tight game. I'm sure he's not trying to get his team a five-minute penalty. He's probably just trying to finish his check and just caught me wrong. I didn't see him coming. I know it hurt, that's for sure."
Matt Cooke: "I realize and understand, more so now than ever, that I need to change. I'm fortunate that Ryan McDonagh wasn't hurt. I don't want to hurt anybody. That's not my intention. I know that I can be better. I made a mistake. I'm the one that's accountable for that. I take full responsibility for it. I'm sorry to my teammates, my management, my coaching staff and my organization. It's something that, moving forward, I'll make different. I want to change. In the game against the Rangers, I had a chance to hit Boyle in the middle of the ice and I didn't. I had a chance to hit McCabe, and he turned, so I didn't hit him. It's a learning process. It doesn't just stop with being suspended. It also doesn't just stop with words. My actions will prove it."
