I find it exceedingly difficult to find my inner Pekka N. right now. Even though we do have some things in common (like surname) it's very difficult to be as optimistic as he usually is. Though I will be interested to hear, how he sees this quali. Of course he could talk how well Olli did (and I have to say, that I too really like Ounasvaara's boys who do well at ski flying (and whose name is Olli)) and how in second training ground three Finns were very good positions etc.
To me, this only seems very, very bad. And not only because of Rane. But really, Finland could only get together 4 jumpers to World Cup in Norway even though they had 6 quota places. And while there is Anssi, who is just slightly injured and Ville, who may or may not be able to come back to same level after long recovery, there is no one else. Well Kalle, but he seems to be so far out, it will be difficult to come back. And Harri, who is maybe permanently out (and to whose comeback at least for next season I don't believe right now. Then again, if he gets his life together, I wouldn't be so surprised him being back 2012-13, if it is made possible by Finnjumping.) Sami whose development has been stuck three years now. I'm starting to worry, he will never be able to make it.
Finnjumping may believe their new system. And it certainly sounds very pro and impressive. But the system doesn't jump even one jump. They do need actual living, breathing (and sometimes critically thinking, not 100 % motivated or committed, having also personal life and all that comes with it, not always optimally behaving, farting and otherwise lacking) human beings, who have talent, skill and courage to come down 100 km/h with two boards on their feet and then fly/fall about 100 to 250 meters depending the hill. And those they are loosing.
