Gilbert plans to speak to Jackson, agent this week

The Cavaliers are moving slowly into the precarious mission of hiring new leadership.
The process of selecting a new general manager and head coach is complicated by the fact that most candidates are part of teams currently in the playoffs. Nonetheless, talks are under way.
According to a person with knowledge of the search, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is planning on speaking with former Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson and his agent this week.
Jackson, with nine championship rings, is regarded as the top candidate on the market and his status is not affected by the playoffs.
Jackson sat out last season and apparently isn't set on returning this year, but has begun listening to pitches.
Gilbert said he planned to hire a general manager before getting a coach, but Jackson likely would have a say in the personnel decisions on any team he selects.
It has been widely reported that Jackson met with New York Knicks officials about their opening Monday in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times reported that he spent Tuesday night having dinner with Lakers owner Jerry Buss.
With the two highest-profile jobs in the league at New York and Los Angeles open, high-ranking NBA insiders speculate Jackson's interest in mid-market jobs in Cleveland, Portland, Minnesota and Orlando would be secondary.
He is purportedly looking for a contract that would pay him $8 million to $10 million per season, a figure that might be hard to get without a bidding war.
The Cavaliers, however, are putting more irons in the fire. Former Minnesota Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders has also been targeted by the team. In an interview with the Newark Star-Ledger Tuesday in Miami, where Saunders was broadcasting the Heat-Nets game for TNT, he said the Cavaliers, Knicks, Lakers and Trail Blazers have contacted him.
Reports out of Seattle indicate the SuperSonics are in contract-extension talks with their head coach, Nate McMillan, but he also might be contacted by the Cavaliers once his season ends. A person close to LeBron James said Wednesday that McMillan is James' top choice to replace Paul Silas as head coach.
Snow wins award
Cavaliers point guard Eric Snow was named the winner of the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for outstanding service and dedication to the community.
Voted on by the Professional Basketball Writers Association, Snow was honored for his numerous community programs in Northeast Ohio geared to improve father-child relationships. He honored 80 father-child pairs before Cavaliers home games and hosted father-child clinics.
Snow also led a toy drive during the holidays and donated money to area nonprofit organizations. He is the second Cavalier to win the award, joining Austin Carr, who won it in 1980.
