Ich tendiere klar zum jungen 19 Jährigen Farmar.
Das ist mal was neues wenn man den Starten lässt. Ein neuer wind! Und wer weiß ich meine alleine durch die Medien und ansätze,sieht man ja das der 26. Pick ein guter Zug war von den Lakers.

Bei aller Wertschätzung, man täte Farmar mit einem Starterplatz keinen Gefallen. Der Junge wird 20 und muss noch einiges lernen, viele Minuten wird er nicht sehen, eventuell erstmal D-League spielen.
Ausnahme: Er macht sich im Training-Camp wesentlich besser als erwartet. Letztes Jahr hatte ja auch niemand mit Smush als Starter gerechnet.

da würde ich mal die eindrücke der summerleage nicht überschätzen. farmar hat bis jetzt nur das getan, was rambis und co. ihm nahelegten (und das ziemlich gut). aber in der "richtigen" triangle hat er sich auch noch nicht bewegt. sein wurf ist selbst in der summerleague noch nicht ganz sicher, zumindestens im bereich von collegedreier und nbadreier. zudem hat er doch sehr starke probleme in der defense, besonders wenn der gegner screens setzt.
allerdings ist ihm zu gute zu halten, dass er ziemlich gute instinkte hat und er soll wohl auch mit leichtigkeit zum korb gekommen sein. außerdem hat er bynum wohl in den letzten spiel auch ganz gut eingesetzt, so dass dieser auch mehr selbstvertrauen in der defensive hatte.

Der Veteran-Guard ist Shammond Williams, nicht gerade ein Starter. Ich vermute aber wie gesagt, dass Smush startet, Sasha (stark verbessert letztes Jahr) und Williams die Backups sind. Farmar wird erstmal bei den D-Fenders spielen.

Kann ich zu wenig beurteilen. Ich persönlich erwarte mir von Bynum nicht so viel dieses Jahr, vielleicht regelmäßig 5-10 Minuten. Er wird ja erst 19, hat sicher einen längeren Weg vor sich und wer ihn jetzt schon bei 20-25 Minuten sieht, spielt mMn mit dem Feuer. Es sieht momentan so aus, als würden die Lakers Chris Mihm als Backup Center halten. Wenn der dann 2007 geht könnte Bynum bereit sein.

Williams is a familiar name to most NBA fans, having stints with 6 different NBA teams over his career, and being a part of the rotation on most of them. Since September 2004 Williams plays in Europe, and after a good performance with Russia’s very rich Unics Kazan last season, Shammond got a contract at the more famous and respected FC Barcelona. Williams was the most consistent and reliable player in Barca’s crowded backcourt throughout this season, and the Final Four was no exception.

Shammond’s long range shooting and ability to create off the dribble kept Barcelona in the game against CSKA, as he was playing very well in the first three quarters by finding the right balance between looking for his own shot and creating for teammates. Unfortunately for his team he lost control and patience down the stretch, starting to jack up contested three-pointers and turning the ball over, as CSKA make a comeback and advanced to the finals. With 24 points and 4 assists, Williams was still Barcelona’s best player in that game.

As he was in his NBA days, Williams is still more of a scorer than a passer, but he’s improved his playmaking skills significantly in the last two seasons. He averages now 4.2 assist in 27.5 minutes per game, which is very good for the Euroleague, and he isn’t even always his team’s primary ball-handler. Offensively, Williams is hard to defend since he can shoot well from long range (41% on almost 5 attempts per game), is athletic and has the ability to get into the lane. His vision as a point guard isn’t the best around, but he will find the open man when he gets by his defender.

Already being 31 years old, Williams is no spring chicken, so it’s possible that he might have a certain urge to get back to the NBA. If that’s the case, this season certainly helped his cause and some team in need of a sparkplug off the bench might give him a shot. Williams is more mature and a better decision maker now and should be a serviceable backup if someone gives him another chance. The possibility always exists that he could make more money playing in Europe, though, as along the way he somehow managed to get a passport from the Republic of Georgia, so a minimum contract might not be all that attractive to him."

2- Leadership

Barcelona used to be the top-team in Europe, with Gasol, Bodiroga, And Jasikevicius, but the team was unable to win a title in two years. Shammond is a coach favorite. He is considered as an on-floor leader . He has leaded a veteran team to the finals.

When I have time, I’ll post some of the fans comments taking from the FC Barcelona Forum.

He can play under pressure since he has played in Turkey, where the arenas are more like battle-fields and the fans extremely passionate.

3- Offense

He is a great shooter. Nothing to add. Shoot 66,6 % 2pt – fg; 36,3 % 3pt-FG, 80% FT. in two games against Tau (Vasquez team) and Moscow (the champions). He averaged: 16 pts/game.

4- Creation and play-making

His abilities to create for other are becoming better. His teammates love the way he plays and always looking at him to do something. Everybody, (the coach included) was impressed of his play-making. They did know that he was a scorer, but they didn’t know he was a passer- first and creator. He has improved in that area, but sometimes, he looks like a gunner and shoot too much. Sometimes, he thinks that he can win a game all by himself. Therefore, he looks a little selfish. But he is always motivated to win. He is a competitor.

5-Defense

“Defense” is not Shammond’s main quality. Every report I have seen (in English, French a little Spanish) stated his floor talents, his decision-making and his offense.

Sometimes they stated the zone –defense, and team-defense, in which Shammond played well as he is a very clever player. But nothing on his man-defense. He is not a stopper! He is not a great pick-pocket ; his steal avg is not high.

His defense is average, maybe not as bad as people remember from his days with the Celtics.

Bottom-line:

Is he ready to be a starter for the Lakers?

Maybe not. We never know how Phil will use him.

In my opinion, he will be a nice back-up to Smush and can help Farmer to Develop.

Is he ready to be a decision maker?

Yes, he can be a clutch player during the Money time. He can win a game almost by himself if I ever got hot; especially if Kobe is being double-teamed. According to every specialist, he was the main reason why Barcelona reached the Final four as he improved his game from round to round.

He will add depth to the Lakers backcourt. I can play both point guard and shooting guard. Phil will love him because he has the reputation of being a coach-favorite. He is not a big guard like Phil loves.

Is he ready to play with Kobe?

My answer is yes. Barcelona has a lot of stars: Basile, (bleep), Navarro, and Marconato. Those guys need the ball in their hands, Shammond was able to lead them and set them up for good looks as he consistently improved his assist numbers. He always looks to learn from his mistakes and try to get to know his teammates and opponents. In My opinion, Kobe will love that.

His experience in various FIBA-teams will help him to add something new to the NBA and the Lakers.

And my guess is that Vlade Divac has something to see with the acquisition. But it’s just a guess! Take it for what it worth.

Grade: B+

the + : Good player. Coach Player. Known as a good play-maker. Knows the game. Has great court vision. Vet player. Teach and learn quickly.

The - : we needed a defense-first PG a la Marcus Banks or Lindsey Hunter. Shammond is not one.

back again...hat sich ja nicht allzuviel getan solange ich weg war. das gerücht mit williams gibts ja schon ne weile, scheint sich aber verhärtet zu haben. dachte eigentlich es wird eher richtung defensivstarker veteran gehen, da man mit den 3 vorhanden guards schon shooting/courtvision/drive abgedeckt hat....

in der summer league erst ne niederlage wobei farmar und pinnock erwähnenswert waren. bynum auch ganz ok, aber man erwartet da natürlich viel. beim sieg gegen dallas (die sind ja echt mies) war wohl bynum sehr stark (14/15/5) pinnock und farmar ebenfalls mit bestätigung ihrer guten leistung. wafer mit 18 punkten, aber dennoch kritisiert worden. schwache D, kein spiel "within the offense".

Irgendwie kommt es mir so vor, als wollten die Lakers nicht zuviele Baustellen auf einmal bearbeiten. 2005/2006 gab es mMn drei Hauptprobleme:
1. Defense
2. Shooting
3. Erfahrung

Mit Radmanovic und Williams holt man Leute mit gutem Wurf, die außerdem beide ein gewisses Maß an Erfahrung mitbringen. Zudem hat lt. Lakersground Phil an Smush Parker die klare Anweisung rausgegeben, sein Midrange-Game zu verbessern. Zudem bringt Williams scheinbar eine Gewisse Spielintelligenz mit, Radmanovic kann ich schlecht einschätzen.
Ich vermute mal, Phil will in erster Linie die Offense flüssig am Laufen haben und es dem Gegner nicht mehr so einfach machen Kobe zu doppeln. Eventuell erhofft er sich dann, dass durch Teamdefense die individuellen Schwächen ausgeglichen werden, wenn das Gesamtkonstrukt erstmal steht. Die Stärkung der man-to.man-Defense ist dann eventuell der nächste Schritt. Jordan Farmar ist ganz klar ein Zukunftsprojekt und ihm hat Phil kein Wurf- sondern Defense-Training auferlegt.
Interessant finde ich auch, dass sowohl Williams als auch Farmar Führungsqualitäten nachgesagt werden, etwas, was den Lakers ebenfalls gefehlt hat.

Marcus Banks würde auch keinen großen Unterschied machen. Ich bin froh, dass man nicht ihm die komplette MLE geboten hat. Aber für die Bi-Annual Exception würde ich ihn nehmen.

Hier einige interessante Aussagen vom Vater der Triangle, Tex Winter:

Guard improvement. “We have to find some leadership in the backcourt,” he explained. This is not a dig at Kobe Bryant. Rather, Winter says the team needs a strong guard, which can take some of the pressure off Bryant and allow him to move to small forward. “That’s where he can be more effective,” Winter said. That’s because working at the 3 spot allows Bryant to operate behind the defense on the underside of the triangle. It could create more opportunities for quick-opening isolation looks like the Bulls used to get for Jordan...

...Rookie Jordan Farmar, of course, is perhaps a key to improved guard play. He knows the game and has shown a knack early in summer league play for the offense, Winter said. “Farmar will help because he’s got some savvy. He knows how to complement Odom on the break. The break will help because it will allow Kobe to get up the floor and attack the basket before the defense sets up. If Smush Parker learns how to utilize all that speed he has, he can be a factor in the running game, too...”

Boost post depth and play. “I don’t know how much we can depend on (Andrew) Bynum,” Winter said. He pointed out that the young center’s play in summer league’s first game is extremely encouraging. “He’s got great potential. If he gets fire in his belly and learns to compete, he could help us tremendously,” the coach added.
The coaching staff likes Chris Mihm as well. Winter has envisioned Mihm as having great potential at power forward, but both Mihm and Kwame Brown seem to prefer the center position.
Regardless, Bynum’s improvement will be a big factor in how the Lakers do. And that’s a lot of pressure to put on an 18-year-old with no college experience. “That’s why I think the summer league is important. Very important,” Winter said. If it can advance the play of Bynum and Farmar, the summer league will pay dividends this upcoming season. That, however, is a huge IF. Is it realistic?
Winter likes the fact that assistant Kurt Rambis wound up coaching the summer league team with help from Brian Shaw and Craig Hodges. All three have a solid understanding of the offense, not to mention great teaching ability, he said...


Much better shooting. All of last season, Winter bemoaned the Lakers’ lack of consistent perimeter shooting. Bryant’s presence creates so many open looks for teammates in the triangle offense. The Lakers needed someone to take advantage. Their acquisition of free agent Vladimir Radmanovic, the 6-10 perimeter threat (and Clipper free agent), has him excited.
“In this offense, he’s gonna get some shots,” Winter said of Radmanovic. “He’ll get more open shots than he’s ever had in his life. That’s if we get the ball movement we need. Radmanovic can do other things besides just shoot. He has an ability to go to the hole off the dribble. Yes, he’s more of a perimeter player, but that will open the floor for Kobe and our other players to drive..."

Improvement from Bryant. “Kobe has got to continue to lift his game, particularly from the standpoint of team play,” Winter said, repeating a refrain that he sends Bryant’s way on a constant basis. Bryant’s play on Team USA in the World Championships in Japan in late August will help tremendously, Winter said. “He won’t feel he’ll have to go out there and dominate. He’ll have so many other good players on that team, he’ll be able to relax a bit and enjoy his teammates.
“He’ll play differently on that team than he’s ever played before,” Winter predicted...

Mihm auf PF wurde ja öfter mal von Kobe 8 (?) angeregt. Scheinbar will er nicht so ganz, aber wenn er in der Rotation auf Center erstmal hinter Kwame hängt, könnte er sich das ganz schnell überlegen Freut mich auch, dass Tex Jordan Farmar lobt.
