Timberwolves SG Rashad McCants had nobody to take care of him after his microfracture surgery, so PF Kevin Garnett took him in. McCants called it "heartwarming" before noting that K.G. "kicked me out after a couple of days

The team the Timberwolves have assembled for the Las Vegas Summer League starts play Thursday. The free agent who most intrigues coach Dwane Casey is J.P. Batista, a 6-9, 270-pound center from Gonzaga.

"Batista knows how to play," Casey said. "Even without being able to jump, he blocks people off the boards and rebounds. And he's an outstanding passer."

Casey admitted he lobbied for the Wolves to take Batista with one of their second-round selections. He was outvoted, so now if he is impressive in Las Vegas, the Wolves will have competition to sign Batista and bring him to training camp.

George Bass, Batista's agent, told the Spokane [Wash.] Spokesman-Review: "I was surprised he didn't get picked. He's worked extremely hard and lowered his body fat from about 15, 16 percent to 10.

"He had five teams that wanted him to play for their summer league teams. ... [The Timberwolves] really need a guy at his position

Batista? Ich weiß nicht. Er is für einen Center sehr,sehr klein(6´9) und seine Athletik scheint ja auch bestenfalls durchschnittlich zu sein,also würde er auch nicht größer spielen können. Er wird also immer ein mismatch bleiben...! Aber wenigstens stimmen Einstellung und Einsatz offensichtlich.

Da kann man nur zustimmen. Auch wenn ich es noch tausende Male erwähnen muss, wir müssen keinen neuen Starter für die 5 holen, wir stellen ganz einfach KG hin und gut is... Run & Gun-Randgruppe 4 life!
Da Mr. McFail lieber weiterhin stagnieren möchte, als mal was Neues zu versuchen, muss man sich ja nun auch mit diesem durchschnittlichen Centermaterial befassen und das Fazit ist: next please!

Ich meine, einer wie Dean Garrett wurde auch vor der Saison 96/97 fuer zu klein und unbeweglich eingestuft, aber mit dem noetigem Einsatz und hustlen, hat er sich recht gut gemacht bei den Wolves in dieser einen Saison, die er fuer sie gespielt hat (ok danach meine ich nochmal).

Deswegen faende ich es eigentlich nicht schlimm, dass man einem wie Baptista eine Chance geben will, versuchen kann man es ja.

Ansonsten einfach wieder Mark Blount hinstellen.

Neuigkeiten den Wolves

Die Wolves werden James als FA wohl nicht bekommen, nun wird ein Sign and Trade immer wahrscheinlicher

The Timberwolves are carefully measuring their steps in the pursuit of free agents, but some targets have emerged.

Wolves officials are talking with point guard Mike James and his agent. Meetings are planned for Thursday and Friday in Las Vegas, where the Wolves have gathered for summer league play.

"There's been dialogue," agent Bill Duffy said Tuesday.

James is one of the biggest names remaining on the market. He averaged 20.3 points and 5.8 assists a game last season with Toronto.

The Wolves probably can't afford James unless Toronto consents to a sign-and-trade deal. That would allow James to receive more money than he could get from the Wolves, who don't have salary cap space and can offer only the midlevel exception, worth slightly more than $5 million a season.

"We're going to look at all options," Duffy said. "Stay tuned."

James would fit several needs for the Wolves. The team wants another veteran leaders, a productive three-point shooter and a point guard who will provide improved play.

James, who turned 31 last month, shot 44.2 percent from three-point range last season, fourth in the NBA.

His scoring mentality also drew criticism. Raptors all-star Chris Bosh said after the season ended that the team needs a "pass-first" point guard, a statement that was interpreted as a jab at James. On Friday, Toronto traded forward Charlie Villanueva to Milwaukee for point guard T.J. Ford, making James expendable.

If the Wolves land James, the transaction would essentially guarantee the departure of free-agent point guard Marcus Banks. Minnesota officials have said re-signing Banks is a priority. Still, Banks clearly needs more seasoning, given his up-and-down play down the stretch last season after he moved into the starting lineup.

Banks lost one of his options when the Los Angeles Lakers spent the bulk of their free-agent money on Vladimir Radmanovic. Banks grew up a Lakers fan, and L.A. needs a point guard.

In other free-agent news, the Wolves have had preliminary talks with agent Mark Bartelstein regarding a few of his clients: shooting guard Eddie House and point guard Jannero Pargo, and big men Darius Songaila, Jake Voskuhl and Aaron Williams. Songaila is a restricted free agent, meaning Chicago can match any offer he receives. The others are unrestricted.

"We're staying in touch," Bartelstein said. "We'll see how it plays out."

Ansonsten sieht es so aus, als ob die Wolves einfach aus verzweifelung irgendeinen FA verpflichten wollen.

Ob KG das gefällt? Er hat doch wieder tatkräftige unterstützung gefordert.

McHale zeigt eindrucksvoll, wie einer der schlechtesten GM's der Liga agiert.
Aber Taylor steht ja eh hinter ihm panik:

Damn, Sign & Trade würde zu teuer. Naja schon letztes Jahr konnte McHale bei Jaric ja nen tollen Vertrag raus schlagen.:wall: Außerdem hab ich vor 2 Tagen noch gelesen das die Raps an nix von den Wolves Interesse haben.

Glen Taylor über McFail


The NBA is a different challenge. It is public. Some people want to know why Kevin McHale is still the decision maker for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"I just like to stay with people. You trust their integrity. And I would say there is one thing with Kevin, you trust his integrity. Kevin doesn't question, he says 'Yeah, I made a mistake there and we could have done better,'" Taylor said.

He learned two years ago, when the Wolves brought in Sam Casell and Latrell Spreewell, that character counts, especially when they wanted to renegotiate contracts.

"We got into an environment that's kind of unusual, but the kind of thing, 'if we don't get what we want' they certainly implied they weren't going to give their full effort," Taylor said.

McHale selbst dazu



Some in the media have been critical of the job Kevin McHale has done as Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations and have suggested that owner Glen Taylor make a change. McHale agrees that this business is about winning and that if a team doesn't win then a person in his position shouldn't stay employed.
"This is not church league. This is professional sports," McHale said. "If you don't win, then you shouldn't have the job. If we're not winning, I take it personal. That's my job, for this team to win basketball games. And we don't win, then I'm not doing my job. Then someone else should do my job if I don't."

Taylor has backed McHale all the way and has previously said that if he could find somebody better he would hire him.

McHale said the same qualifications should hold for an executive as for a player in the NBA.

"You know what, if you're a basketball player and someone beats you out, hell, you lose your job," he said. "It's your job to go out there and to try and do better. Try to get this thing. Absolutely, that's the nature of the business. I don't think that's a big secret. That's professional sports."

McHale believes the team ran into a lot of bad luck last year with injuries and other problems. He believes that with the addition of a couple of pieces, the 2006-07 edition of the Wolves will win.

"We're a lot better basketball team than our record was last year. But they got to go out and win," McHale said. "Things change quickly in our league. I think that if we can add a piece or two and these guys go through training camp and make a few changes in how we play, I think we'll be more than competitive. Our goal is to win our division and get in the playoffs and make a playoff run."

The Wolves hired 40 new employees to sell tickets. But unless they do add a couple of players, those 40 employees, working on commission, won't make much money, because fans aren't going to support a loser. Also, it will make it easier to win if Troy Hudson gets healthy, and if the Wolves find a big man, such as Brad Miller of the Kings, to take the pressure off Kevin Garnett, who is working out harder this offseason than ever.

Wie viele von Euch bin ich ebenfalls nicht sonderlich begeistert von McHale. Was mir besonders fehlt bei den Wolves (und ich gehe jetzt mal davon aus, dass dies zu seinen Aufgaben gehört) ist es die Sleeper in den Teams zu finden, entweder hat er hierfür kein Gespür oder er schaut sich einfach nicht richtig um. Klar kann man nicht erwarten, dass ein Spieler, der bei anderen Teams auf der Bank versauert bei uns zum Allstar wird, aber wenn man sieht wie schnell und zielsicher die Suns bei solchen Spielern zuschlagen (Stichwort Diaw, Jones, Thomas oder House) dann kann man schonmal neidisch werden, für welch kleines Geld dort produktive Rollenspieler (und darüber hinaus) verpflichtet wurden.
Vor allem:
Dort erkennt man wirklich eine Handschrift bei den Verpflichtungen und das konsequente Festhalten an einem System und Konzept. Ich bin mir sicher, wenn D'Antoni gesagt hat: Du ich brauch da noch einen Spieler, mir würde der ganz gut gefallen, dass Colangelo (oder wer macht gerade den GM Job bei den Suns? Gesagt hätte: Nö, ich hol dir einen anderen.
Das gibts anscheinend nur bei uns. :wall:

Kann man nur hoffen, dass McHale und Casey sich endlich mal auf ein Konzept einigen und dies dann gnadenlos durchziehen. Dieses Rumgewurschtel geht mir derzeit extrem auf den Zeiger.

To Garnett: K.G., we're going to get Ben Wallace. Let's make this happen.

Without losing the core of their team and transferring Chandler's contract -- along with, say, Luol Deng and No. 4 draft pick Tyrus Thomas and an extra million dollars for good faith (and good luck!) -- the Bulls have an almost salary-cap exempt presentation they will submit to the Timberwolves with the pitch of: "You don't want to lose K.G. next year and get nothing in return the way the Pistons just did with Ben Wallace. Do you?"

McHale flinches.

Next thing we know, the city's prodigal prodigy is back. Playing ball only a few miles away from where he started -- Farragut High School to Minnesota and back. Like Gabe Kotter. Sort of.

That's the plan.

And that's why, in Chi, we feel that the plan will work. That if played correctly, GM John Paxson and principal owner Jerry Reinsdorf can pull off some Bulls--- that would make Penn and Teller proud.

Because in the end, that's all it is. Which is why we fall for it. In the case of reality being real, we know there's no way in Dusty Baker's hell Kevin Garnett is going to play for the Bulls next season. We know the P.J. Brown/J.R. Smith for Chandler deal with the Hornets is as good as it's going to get.

We know the Troy Murphy or Carlos Boozer for Chandler deal is as gooder as it's going to get.

We know the reality is: This -- landing Ben Wallace -- is Christmas.

Which is why from now on in the city Kanye claims is "so Chi that we bashful," the Fourth of July forever will be known as the day Ben Wallace landed on us. The day of independence when the city got the one player it needed to get us back to the top, to the the pinnacle, where the White Sox rest.

It's just too bad the promise won't come true and the "other" player the team promised Ben won't ever be in a Bulls uniform.

ja, so sehe ich das auch. ich bin total fertig. ich persönlich bin wovles und bulls fan. vor 2 jahren hab ich mit den wolves spaß gehabt und um die bulls getrauert. jetzt weiß ich bei den wolves nicht mehr was ich denken soll und was da ab geht. und bei den bulls weiß ich nicht wie viele titel sie holen werden. also MCHale wie wärs wenn du mal schaust wie man das macht!

Kann deine Stimmung gut nachvollziehen, bin seit über 10 Jahren Wolves-Fan und auch seit dem alle guten als auch schlechten Zeiten mit durchgemacht. Aber was Momentan dort los is, is mit Worten einfach nicht zu beschreiben. Damals, die erste Amtshandlung Mc Hale´s war es, KG zu draften. Die Jahre danach hat er mMn recht gute Arbeit geleistet. Aber was geht denn bitte seit 2 Jahren in seinem Kopf vor? Wird er Seniel? Hauptberuflicher Alkoholiker? Zuviel gekokst? Man weiß es nich. Eins is Klar, Glen Tayler darf einfach nicht mehr an diesem Mann festhalten. Denn das Team ist mMn schon lange nicht mehr am Misserfolg schuld. Sondern nur Kevin (und ich meine ganz bestimmt nicht Garnett). Mc Hale MUß WEG!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hatte ich auch bei den Bulls nach der Jordan-Aera, als man im Tabellenkeller rumgurkte und Spieler wie Rasty LaRue und Kornell David in der Starting-5 standen.
Umso mehr freue ich mich wirklich, dass die Bulls es momentan wieder in obrige Regionen der NBA-Tabellen zu finden sind.

Die Wolves fand ich schon immer cool, vorallem damals mit Gugs,KG und Marbury !
Aber jetzt wird da soviel Dreck hinter den Kulissen veranstaltet, da macht es keinen Spass mehr dazuzugucken.
Deswegen halte ich es wie du T-Wolves: gute Besserung Minny !
