Magic Still Working On Haslem: With Dwight Howard's explosion onto the national scene this weekend, the pressure is even greater for the Magic to trigger a deal for a big man. The Sonics have put Johan Petro and Kurt Thomas on the market, and it seems Wally Szczerbiak and Chris Wilcox could be had as well. The Magic could find a deal in Seattle without giving up the farm, but word is Otis Smith has been working Miami hard regarding Udonis Haslem, and views UD as the perfect complement to Dwight Howard. You can bet Stan Van Gundy has endorsed this move, as Udonis was one of Stan's favorite players in Miami. There has been a lot said about the "fued" between Orlando and Miami, and sources close to both team say there is no animosity at all; in fact there is a pretty open dialogue according to sources. The point made regarding Stan Van Gundy's exit this past summer, was simply that Miami is not giving away an asset without compensation, and that was true with Stan and that's true of Udonis. The Magic simply have to decide how much of the future they want to give up today, in exchange for the chance to compete in May. As constructed the Magic will struggle in the post season, Udonis may not be the answer to a title, but he is likely the ticket to the 2nd round or the conference finals, and with more and more people saying Miami is looking at Elton Brand and Jermaine O'Neal as free agents this summer, don't be surprised to see Miami dump UD's guaranteed deal to make a little more room.
