Auf die Frage nach dem cap für 2005/2006:
Salary 05-06
Jason Kidd: $16.44M
Vince Carter: $13.843M
Richard Jefferson: $10M
Clifford Robinson: $5.875 (Team Option)
Jason Collins: $5.05M (geschätzt, da Vertrag nur gesamt bekannt: 24 Mios/4 Jahre)
Ron Mercer: $1.760M (player option)
Nenad Krstic: $1.010M
Zoran Planinic: $.939M
The Nets, who were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Miami Heat, have the midlevel exception (roughly $5.5 million) and a $4.9 million trade exception. Ratner said they "absolutely" can use both. They're expected to go after Donyell Marshall, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Stromile Swift and Samuel Dalembert using either or both.
It's very possible the Nets will try to split up their midlevel exception and give it out to several players to make sure they have better depth. Ratner said all of these decisions will be left up to Thorn and Stefanski, including what to do with the Nets' big three.
However, the boss said he would like to see them together, so it's unlikely Kidd, Carter or Jefferson will be shopped this off-season.
"I'd be surprised if I didn't see them together," Ratner said.
"To have three stars like that, I don't think there are many people that have that. It is important to put people in the seats. It is a tremendous marketing advantage," he added. "They are professional players, players that people like, good character. Amazing really. Only good words you can say about each one of those three players."
Kidd is the one Ratner spoke about most positively and someone he thinks shares the same objective: to win.
"It's very important to keep Jason Kidd happy," Ratner said. "He's the captain in more ways than the word captain.
"I think we have the same goal. It wasn't the same last year. We weren't on the same page. But we've done great. ... Now it's an opportunity to make the team even better."
