Neues Interview mit Larry Brown, kurz vor der Abfahrt nach Oklahoma City:
This is an 20-minute interview from earlier today, on the phone with LB before the Knicks left for Oklahoma City.
WFAN Interview
I was impressed with how candid and honest LB was with all of these questions. He really adressed a lot of issues head on.
He completely quelled the notion the Knicks will make a quick-fix trade, saying that they absolutely won't make a trade that sacrifices the future in any way. He said the Jalen trade was made because he thinks Jalen is a good leader for the young guys and for the pick (which he thinks might be in the lottery, meaning he's not a Denver fan)
He said he talks to Isiah every single day.
He subtly but effectivley took shots at the media. He explained that he was just joking around with a reporter about Trevor being delusional, and the guy turned around and made is a front page story. He also gave other examples.
He said that he sees a bright future for Eddy. He emphasized that Curry is younger than Frye, and is less developed. He said that he's very encouraged by the fact that Eddy is always looking to learn and get better.
When questioned about Curry not getting enough shots, he said he agrees. He said he'd love for Curry to get a lot more shots, but he says the Knicks don't have guys who can make entry passes. He implied that Steph was the only guy making responsible entry passes, and that Jalen adds another guy who can do that.
He said Qyntel Woods has improved as much as any young player he's ever seen in such a short time. He seemed to be in love with Qyntel.
He said Jackie Butler is going to be in the league for a "very long time."
I was surprised with how candid he was about Lee. He said he's not sure Lee will ever be a starting caliber player, and sees him as just a "contributer".
He seemed to avoid the subject of Nate, which was kind of telling.
He emphasized how young the Knicks truly are, and asked for patience. He pointed out that at point last night, he looked out on the court and the Knicks had Nate Robinson, Jamal Crawford, Qyntel Woods, Channing Frye, and Jackie Butler on the floor going up against Carter, Jefferson, and Kidd. He said that it's really unfair to them to put that many young guys out on the court at once, but said he really had no choice.
All in all, the interview was encouraging. He sounded very committed for the long term, patient in the short term, and understanding that the Knicks are gonna take a long time to be good. He said that he talked to Dolan today, and Dolan understands this is a long term building process. He once again reiterated that the Knicks won't make quick-fix trades, and did so in response to a Theo Ratliff question.
Very good interview overall. I trust this guy.
