Ich glaube das Orlando ihn per S&T holen möchte. Da Rahim imho bestimmt net für die MLE spielen wird. Mit 28 will man noch mal einen fetten Vertrag abschliessen. Und Orlando hat ja ein paar auslaufende Verträge zu bieten!

ORLANDO - Weary and bleary earlier this week from yet another long day and night at the office, Orlando Magic assistant general manager Dave Twardzik glanced down at his watch and let out a hearty chuckle.

It was just after midnight when Twardzik said sarcastically, "Hey, looks like I might get home early tonight."

With the Magic out of the playoffs a second consecutive season and with plenty of holes to fill on the roster, Twardzik and fellow assistant GM Otis Smith know there is little time to rest.

The NBA Draft is complete, with the Magic having taken Spanish power forward Fran Vazquez with the 11th pick and Marquette point guard Travis Diener 38th overall.

Now the league moves on to free agency, which opened at midnight and the dawn of July. Thursday was another long night with Twardzik and Smith planning to call representatives of point guards Antonio Daniels and Earl Watson just after midnight.

"It's a crazy time of year, but the good thing (is) you kind of know two to three years in advance who the free agents are going to be," Smith said. "You have to stay ahead of the curve and strategically plan out who you are going to recruit, so you are ready."

Free-agent players can be courted and recruited by teams for the next three weeks. Players can't officially sign contracts until July 22, but agreements are often reached early in the process.

Such was the case last summer with Hedo Turkoglu, who agreed to a six-year, $39 million deal with the Magic within the first week of the free-agent period. Smith, now one of Orlando's point men following John Weisbrod's resignation last month, was instrumental in plucking Turkoglu out of free agency.

Smith said the Magic hope to have prospective free agents visit Orlando by the weekend. With 13 guaranteed contracts for next season, the Magic will likely use all of their allotted money on one free agent.

"We've already talked quite a bit about it," he said. "We have our lists and we've ranked all of the players available. We'll definitely be looking to make our team better."

Because the Magic are well above the projected $51 million salary cap with a payroll of likely $72 million, they won't be in the running for the top free agents.

That's unfortunate timing because this free-agent crop is loaded with top shooting guards, one of the Magic's primary needs. Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Joe Johnson, Larry Hughes and Latrell Sprewell will almost certainly command more cash than the Magic are capable of giving.

Orlando figures to be a major player in the free-agent market next summer when the contracts of Kelvin Cato ($8.6 million), Doug Christie ($8.2 million) and Tony Battie ($5.2 million) come off the books. Or the Magic could opt to package those expiring contracts in a trade this season for a star player making maximum money.

Orlando has only the middle-class exception -- a $5.3 million chunk of money -- available this summer. That can go to one free agent in a lump sum or broken up among multiple free agents. Orlando used the entire middle-class exception last summer to lure Turkoglu from San Antonio.

Smith and Twardzik handled most of the heavy lifting in scouting players for the draft, but the Magic plan to use new head coach Brian Hill's NBA knowledge in grading free agents. Hill and assistant coaches Tom Sterner and Randy Ayers have been watching video of free agents for weeks.

With Steve Francis likely to spend more time at shooting guard this season, Orlando's main emphasis figures to be point guard. Daniels of Seattle, Watson of Memphis and Marco Jaric of the Los Angeles Clippers will certainly be on the Magic's radar because they offer an upgrade defensively at the point.

Orlando hotly pursued Daniels and was close to signing him two years ago, but came up short when Seattle offered more money. At 6-foot-4, he is one of the NBA's biggest and best defenders at the point.

Watson is looking for a starting job after backing up Jason Williams the past two seasons with the Grizzlies. Watson became a Memphis fan favorite with his hustle and willingness to throw his body around. Because of Watson's playmaking abilities and defensive skills, Memphis coach Mike Fratello often used him instead of Williams to finish games in the fourth quarter.

"I'd say the point guard spot would be a key area for us," Smith said. "We're young there with Jameer (Nelson) and Diener. I'm not saying we're going to move Stevie to (shooting guard), but we also know that he can play some point if we need him to."



Noch mal zu Rahim, wenn man ihn günstig bekommen könnte, dann wäre ich nicht abgeneigt. Aber die Prioritäten sollen nicht auf dem Frontcourt, sondern auf dem Backcourt liegen.

ich finds super das dwight howard nochmal in der summerleague spielt. das zeigt seine super work thic und seine willen sich zu verbessern!! ich freu mich schon drauf wie er die spiele dominieren wird.

Für mich geht es nicht in erstes Linie darum, das D12 da alles platt macht, was sich nur dem Brett nähert und Jameer jedem einen Knoten in die Beine spielt.


Für mich ist es wichtig zu sehen, das Dwight in der Offense ein paar nette Offensiv Bewegungen zeigt und allen voran im Low Post ein paar Moves an den Tag legt, mit denen er sehr sicher scoren kann.

Jameer soll endlich anfangen zu zeigen, das er als PG durchaus ein paar Dreier trifft, bei einer Quote um die 38%...37,5% tun es natürlich auch.

Alles andere ergibt sich von selbst, den Spanier wollen wir natürlich net vergessen.

Gerüchten zufolge sind wir in Tradegesprächen mit den Clippers.... Mal sehen ob was bei rumkommt.

irgendwas mit magette oder vielleicht auch simmons. leute, die shooting guard spielen. ich würde schätzen, dass wir ihnen entweder auslaufende verträge schicken (cato, battie, jackie) oder vielleicht ist steve francis involviert.

ist imho gar nicht mal so schlecht für die clippers. sie haben einen großen point guard und dazu passt francis gut. livingston legt ein wenig muskelmasse zu, dann läuft das mit der verteidigung.

Hmmm.....Ich glaube nicht, dass die Clippers bereit sind, Maggette nach Orlando zu traden. Der Junge ist echt klasse, ist ein ausgezeichneter Athlet und mit Elton Brand der Hauptbestandteil der Mannschaft. Außerdem hat er ja schon mal für die Magic gespielt.....Er wird wohl alles tun, um den Trade zu verhindern, vor allem da Elton Brand sein bester Freund ist
EDIT: Was ist mit Larry Hughes? Wär der nicht was für die Magic? Dass er an der Seite von etwas egoistischen Point Guards gut spielen kann, hat man ja gesehn

Leute, hört auf zu träumen! Die Magic werden nichts mit den clippers hinbringen wo nicht Francis mit ivolviert ist. Da ich allerdings fest glaube, dass "Bruno Hillarious" auf Franschillo als SG setzt, wird es in der Offseason keine Bloclkuster-Moves mehr geben. Ausserdem lassen sich die Magic sich ganz sicher nicht 42 mille über 6 jahre für simmons oder Jaric an die Backe klatschen, denn das stellen sich beide als neue Verträge vor.
Beide sollte nach dem Insider in diesen Trade involviert sein. Ich denke an den Rumors ist nischt dran.

sorry das ich da wiedersprechen muss, aber ich bin mir ziemlich sicher das es diesen sommer noch einen megatrade in orl gibt. ob der nach unseren vorstellungen ist, ist wieder eine andere frage, aber auf jeden fall wird der roster noch ganzschön durcheinander gewürfelt.

Ja Trades die Christie und Cato beinhalten schon möglich. Stevenson könnte auch involviert sein, aber dann hörts auch schon auf.

Abdur Rahim hat es bisher noch nicht in die Playoffs geschafft, ich glaube kaum, dass er eine große Chance darin sieht, das bei den Magic zu ändern. Vor allem im Vergleich zu den Nets. Ausserdem müsste er bei den Magic ja wohl SF spielen. Ist nicht seine optimale Position. Im Osten wird er auf jeden Fall PF spielen.

Ich würde es nicht gut finden, wenn Howard Center spielen würde, es könnte zwar gutgehen, aber für ihn persönlich wäre es besser wenn er sich als PF entwickeln könnte. Siehe Amare Stoudemire. Der hat sich zwar auch als Center weiterentwickelt, trotzdem haben die Suns jetzt Kurt Thomas geholt, damit Amare wieder Pf spielen kann.

Ich finde es eh lustig, dass er im Osten PF spielt und bei den Magic SF spielen "soll". Soweit ich das in erinenrung habe sind die Magic im Osten. Wenn Howard nicht auf C wechselt, muss Shareef halt von der Bank als PF und SF kommen. Er kann den PF machen, wenn Howard ein paar Minuten C spielt bzw auf der Bank sitzt.
Shareef sollte sich mit einer Bankspieler Rolle auch abgeben können, denn wenn er in die Playoffs will, muss er Opfern bringen.
Außerdem ist ein guter 6th Man wichtig, und falls die Magic in die Playoffs kommen sollten, wird man seine Leistung bestimmt auch von außerhalb loben.
