Point Guard:
1. Allen Iverson - Although many may see Iverson as more of a shooting guard, he played point last year for the Sixers and averaged a career high 7.9apg along with 30ppg.
2. Steve Nash - Last seasons MVP averaged a league best in assists (11.5). He is the best true point guard in the league, but since Iverson played point last year he is second on the list.
3. Baron Davis - Baron Davis proved last season after getting traded to the Warriors that he can turn a team around. Davis is one of the top playmakers in the league and can score in many different ways along with dropping 8 dimes a game.
4. Chauncey Billups - One of those players that can play both guard positions. His stats may not be as good as some other point guards in the league, but he is a proven winner and helped the Pistons win back-to-back championships.
5. Stephon Marbury - A player that most people have given up on, but he is still a great player and puts up great numbers ever night. It is not his fault that the Knicks cannot win.
Shooting Guard:
1. Kobe Bryant - Kobe Bryant is still one of the top players in the league even without having Shaq around. He is one of the top players to ever play the game. Expect him to bring the Lakers back to their winning ways in the near future.
2. Dwyane Wade - A year ago Wade definitely would not have made it on my list. But after the season he had in 2004-05, he proved that he may have been even more important to the Heat’s success than Shaq was. He may be number one on this list in a couple years.
3. Ray Allen - Ray is arguably the best shooter in the league. He was the leader of the Sonics last season and was one of the main reasons why the team was so successful last season. The Sonics should be thrilled that he has agreed to re-sign.
4. Vince Carter - When last season first started it looked as though Vince would be on my All Fall-Off Team, but after the trade to the Dirty Jerz Vince proved that he is still a top player in this league.
5. Larry Hughes - Hughes just finished the best season of his career. He is a proven scorer, but most importantly he led the league in steals. Most likely Larry will be playing alongside LeBron next season, so look for the Cavs to make some noise in the east.
Small Forward:
1. LeBron James - The best all-around player in the league. If LeBron can prove that he is a winner, he will be the next Jordan. With averages of 27, 7, and 7 last season he showed that he has what it takes to be the best player in the league for years to come. Can play the one, two, and three, but last season played mostly as the SF.
2. Tracy McGrady - One of the most clutch players in the league. Is good for 25 every night. He can take any game over at any time.
3. Carmelo Anthony - Melo started last season off terrible. His shooting was down and he quickly turned into the 3rd best sophomore behind Wade. But thanks to Coach George Karl, Melo changed his game around and now takes it hard to the hole rather than shooting the J as much. Look for Carmelo Anthony to have a breakout season next year.
4. Andrei Kirilenko - Injuries ruined last season for AK47, and probably would be higher on this list if he had not gotten injured. Kirilenko is a great shot blocker and plays better defense then the three players above him on the list.
5. Ron Artest - Another player that would be higher on the list if he did not miss time last season due to suspension. Ron is the leagues best defensive player.
Power Forward:
1. Tim Duncan - The Finals MVP is the best fundamental player in the league. He may not be the most exciting player, but he knows how to win and puts up at least 20 and 10 a night without you even knowing.
2. Kevin Garnett - I would have put KG number one if he had ever won anything in his career. A seven footer that plays like a guard, you can’t get much better than that.
3. Jermaine O’Neal - I considered JO as a possible MVP candidate last season. Next year if the Pacers are successful look for him to be a candidate again.
4. Dirk Nowitzki - I could not decide who is better between 3 and 4, it could go either way. Both Dirk and J. O’Neal are two players that are very important to their teams success, and could be MVP of the league in the near future.
5. Elton Brand - Many people seem to forget about Brand, but he is still a great player. Hopefully one day the Clippers will be good enough to get him some recognition. Who knows, maybe if the Clips make the playoffs next year Elton may jump up higher on this list.
Center:
1. Shaquille O’Neal - His numbers are going down, but he is still the most dominate player in the game. I do not expect him to ever fall off my top 5 list until he retires.
2. Amare Stoudemire - Amare’s natural position is power forward, but due to the Suns lack of talent at center he played center last season. Next year he will probably play more time at PF and Marion will move to his natural SF position after the Suns acquired Kurt Thomas for Q Richardson
3. Yao Ming - Yao has the potential to be much better than he is. He is still one of the top centers in the league, and will continue to improve.
4. Ben Wallace - Wallace is an amazing defensive player and the leagues best rebounder. He is below Yao on this list just for the simple fact that he is not as good of a scorer.
5. Marcus Camby - Camby averaged a double-double and was second in the league in blocks per game and first in total blocks. Camby beats out Big Z for the final spot due to his defense and athleticism.
